Purple Wave Festival Celebrates National Recovery Month


On Saturday, September 24th, the District of Columbia Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) and DC Recovery Advisory Council (DCRAC) will host the first Purple Wave Festival: Celebrating Our Families, Our Stories, Our Recoveryfrom 10am to 3pm at Howard University on the Yard. The goal of the event is to increase public awareness and understanding of mental health and substance use disorders while celebrating recovery in honor of National Recovery Month.

The Purple Wave Festival is a fun event with music, food and entertainment.  Community based providers will distribute information about wellness including mental and physical health. The event will also will feature personal recovery success stories and highlight the value of family and community support for people living with mental health and/or substance use disorders.

There will be free giveaways including a chance to receive a complimentary DBH- Office of Consumer and Family Affairs Memoirs of An Addict: Fact or Fiction  book,
