In a statement released, Sunday, July 10, 2016, concerning the health of the singer Chaka Khan, stated that she has been battling with an addiction to the same medication that led to Princes death last April. Chaka Khan, the 63-year-old singer and her sister have  “voluntarily” entered a drug rehabilitation program to battle their addictions to prescription drugs, according to her representative.  The singer  has battled with drugs and alcohol addiction in the past and has been to rehab several times before.

Today with an growing epidemic of drug abuse–no one should or can throw stones. For many who struggle with any addiction, to say it’s easy and to say it’s magic or it just disappears is not realistic. We all have some form of addiction.

See, society need to understand that no matter what the addiction, there is a root problem that leads to the issues, however , there is hope and there is help. Just Don’t Give Up!

No one wants to be an addict. Yet the cost and education, stigma and shame keeps many from reaching out for help. The sad part of being an addict is there is a   need is to provide more long-term treatment.  For many with addictions it is a  one step at a time process that affects the brain.

I would like to ask a question for you to ponder… Can an addict ever be free? For many addicts; they battle not only addiction,  many battle and have challenges with behavioral health issues such as anxiety, PTSD, bipolar, schizophrenia, and depression, that are known today as co-occurring disorders.

As someone who understands the challenges of co-occurring disorders of depression, addiction and suicidal ideation, I commend the singer Chaka Khan for her bravery in seeking help and not ending up as another celebrity who has died from drugs.

To those who understand the struggle– continue to be encouraged!
